How are you and compassion

“How are you ?” The lost compassion

In a world where small talk weaves its web,
a question arises, but who does it serve?
“Why ask how are you?” some may silently dread, when the honest answer is not truly observed.

We speak empty words, on familiar parade,
How are you? How’s life? We vocalize, yet in the depths of our hearts, we’ve often betrayed the true nature of caring, with silent goodbyes.

For ask we must, as societal norms demand, though the intention may be far from sincere.
A habitual script, like shifting sand, the answer, a mere formality, we secretly fear.

In this grand masquerade, we put our facade, asking, but not listening, to the joys or the pain. We render our empathy, detained and flawed, leaving authenticity lost, within life’s mundane.

But let us remember, there’s more to this scene, a glimmer of hope may yet come alive.
For amidst the disingenuous, compassion can gleam, as genuine souls yearn for answers, not contrived.

So let us strive to be different, to break free,
to ask with intention, to truly behold, to listen with patience and hear earnestly, for the answer beneath those stories untold.

For in every exchange, lies a chance to connect, to mend the dissonance within our shared space, to bring solace and comfort, our hearts intersect, and embrace the fuller truth, in each other’s embrace.

So when next we inquire, “How are you, my friend?” May our hearts be open, our ears eager to hear. In those fleeting moments, bonds we shall mend, transcending mere pleasantries, to something sincere.

Let compassion reign, as we ask and we care,
for truth, however fleeting, deserves due respect and perhaps, just perhaps, in each gesture we share, we’ll find the answers we seek, our souls intersect.
